Welcome to CITS F220 Implementing Internet Tools and Technology, a three-credit online course. I\u2019ve made the Blackboard course available, so if you\u2019re ready to begin, please log in! This course explores the use of \u201csocial software\u201d and some old and some emerging Web 2.0 applications. The format is a survey course with a heavy emphasis on participation and exploration, not an in-depth examination. The primary outcomes are to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Expose you to a range of contemporary and emerging web technologies<\/li>\n
  2. Increase your understanding of Web 2.0 and the participatory, socially networked web<\/li>\n
  3. Help you find applications, services, and tools that fulfill personal, academic, and\/or professional needs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You will be creating accounts on and exploring a number of social networking sites throughout the semester. I encourage you to investigate these services deeply and push to understand not only how they are currently being used, but also how they might be used in new and different ways.\u00a0DISCLAIMER:<\/strong>\u00a0You are expected to participate in this public, online, learning community.\u00a0Public activities will include posting blogs, providing and receiving student peer feedback on your posts and those of your peers, and making assignment content publicly available for comments<\/em>. Instructor grades and feedback will be private through Blackboard, according to FERPA regulations. Please contact me within one week of the start of the semester if you have concerns about this or wish to arrange for a pseudonym\/avatar. Starting the course without making prior arrangements (within one week) means that you have given your consent to use your identity in public as a member of this course.     Be sure and read through ALL items within the section. All course material can be found in or linked from the Assignments area in Blackboard. Starting Week 3 we will also begin working on class blog site. The details on how to log in and post to follow.<\/p>\n

    The Introduction assignment\u00a0is due by Monday,\u00a0January 19th<\/b>.\u00a0 The rest of the assignments for each week in are due every\u00a0Sunday<\/b>\u00a0at midnight. I will try to be as prompt as possible with grades and feedback which you should receive by no later than the following Sunday. I will be opening two weeks worth of material and assignments at a time. I hope this will help you stay on track throughout the semester and feel less overwhelmed. The last day to complete\/submit your assignments is\u00a0Sunday, May 3<\/b>. If circumstances should arise, you must complete at least half of the coursework by this date to be eligible to request an incomplete. The course has weekly deadlines and all late work will result in a subtraction of 10 pts per assignment. Please see Syllabus for further details.<\/p>\n
