I have an exciting project going on. I am finally replacing all the carpet with laminate. I have got a contractor to do it for 4,600 as opposed to another contractor that quoted me over 10,000. My apartment is 700 sq feet. A friend did three bedrooms with stairs (2,400 sq feet) for 9,000. So I was pretty pissed. Needless to say, I did not hire them. I hired the contractor who gave me an estimate of 4,000. However, the people they hire are Latinos who don’t really speak English and who did not make the laminate go wall to wall. It is not that big of a deal but still… And they did not replace the molding as was quoted. So that’s another $700 off the cost. I really like them though and expanding my Spanish vocabulary. I know the basics since I was taught by my coffee lady in return for teaching her Russian. So glad that I can communicate with them even if it is rudimentary. I hope they appreciate my effort. They are doing it quickly and I suspect everything is going to be done in one day which is awesome! Then on to picking out carpets. I love making my home beautiful. It is just like making art. Your home is your soul and it is amazing to come back to it after work and relax. The constructor I hired is not perfect but there is no way I could have afforded over $10,000. I honestly think it’s a ripoff.

Anyhow, I am happy because the laminate looks so good! I picked the right color and it makes my rooms feel bigger and lighter. My apartment is dark as I have trees surrounding it which I welcome in 100F. I don’t even have to turn my air conditioner on. All in all, I am pretty happy in spite of the imperfections. Yes, it probably had been better but beggars are not choosers. The rest of my savings will go to a new couch and beautiful rugs. All is good. we all can live with imperfections. Japanese perfected that art.

Anyhow, that is my biggest news and a very good one. I am crying less and less about Opee although I kiss the box with his ashes many times a day. That helps though knowing that he is home with me. Maybe in the future, I adopt another doggo but as of right now I just want my Opee.
