Today’s task was to “write an opening sentence of your future novel.” Well, I consulted many before I wrote mine. The one that won is the one from Tolstoy for one of my favorite books “Anna Karenina.” It’s the only book I brought with me when I moved to the US. I am sure there are many others with great opening sentences. But Tolstoy went “All happy families resemble each other. Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Well, it kind of roughly translates to Russian but close enough. So I thought a lot because I actually want to write a novel eventually not that it is going to be any good seeing as it would be written in Ringlish..”The fire burned hot but there was no way to catch it as it had its own life but it was magnificent in its destruction of everything on its way.” Stay tuned for more pages.
