Today’s task was to “Parachute. Make and test your own parachute today.” So, seeing how I don’t have access to a roof or don’t want to climb a tree I opted to jump from a bar stool (which is higher than a regular chair and has time to open the parachute). Now to constructing one. At first, I thought I would cut and sew the garments that don’t fit anymore (yes, I am officially fat. stupid hormones and a bum knee so no running for me) which included a windbreaker (the best material for the parachute!). However, my sewing machine broke some time ago. I had to sew curtains for my apartment by hand. It took hours but thank god I am Russian and we are used to this kind of thing. In Soviet Russia… Anyhow. I spread the windbreaker and low and behold a light bulb kicked in. I don’t have to sew anything. It is ready as it is and I can use the sleeves as handles! The pic is included. Plus it is nice yellow so if I should jump from tall buildings people will notice. However, once I climbed on the stool it became shaky (yes, it is a cheap one from IKEA). So, arms out to keep my balance. I ended up standing on just one leg like a crane. Now was a time to jump. Sleeves held wide. I was ready. I have to say that it is hard to take off with just one leg but I managed. Needless to say, the windbreaker just hung on my shoulders and did not act as a parachute. I was really disappointed but oh well. There is always tomorrow to try again. Besides, I did it in real life (not a well-known fact). My dad took me with him on a low-flying plane (he was Air Force) and just pushed me out. Thank god I had training before. Of course, we did not tell my mother. We just said we went for an ice cream. It was terrifying and I landed on my butt but managed actually land on a clearing by the base. True story. It is probably as unbelievable as my visiting North Korea when I was 18 with my volleyball team. We did kick their butts. All in all, I did my best. We will see what tomorrow brings.
