Today’s task was to send a message in the bottle. No problem as there are many creeks around the trails we hike with Opee. Although they might lead to the Pacific Ocean which minimizes chances that it will be found unless it washes up on a beach. The first thing I had to do is to ascertain the kind of bottle I would like to use. I had a choice between a wine bottle and a plastic water bottle. On the first walk with Opee, I brought a wine bottle for the test. I corked it in hopes it will float due to the air inside and someone would see and fish it out (generally yuppies who patrol trails and rivers on a lookout for trash and dog poop and then voice it as they pass you by, “I just picked up poop! People are so irresponsible!” which I agree with and that’s about the only thing I agree on with them (somehow the wildlife poop stays intact. No equity there)). So, there it would be lucky if they can fish the bottle and discover there is a message. Anyhow, the bottle sank and I had no interest in fish opening the bottle and discovering the message. Of course, they cannot read it or if they do it will be misconstrued I suspect. But you never know with fish. So, plastic bottle it is. Then I proceeded to find paper. The white one would not do because it does not call attention to itself so I settled on bright red (thank god I am an artist and have numerous colors of paper. Finally came in handy!). The message: “The world will end soon! Be on the lookout for tsunamis or any other geophysical major event or zombies. If you see such an event don’t panic. I have supplies that will last a year! My pantry is quite big and would accommodate. This is a secret, so don’t spread it around as then people will compete for my pantry access and we don’t want that. Besides, there might be food shortage just like tp shortage during COVID and we don’t want that.” And then I gave a fake address because in my heart I don’t want to share my pantry with anyone. I love my pitted olives and condensed milk which I drink right out of the can. Try it, it is a good substitute for dessert. I know this is cruel but such is life. Maybe after they read the message they will start their own pantry.
