Learning Objectives

- Summarize the Basic History of Blogging
- Explain the difference between websites and blogging platforms
What are Blogs?
At first, a weblog was an online diary, displayed in reverse chronological order (most recent posts first)– often focused on sharing interesting links to other sites around the web.
Over time, blogging has become perhaps the most important user phenomenon on the Internet. The term “blog” has come to represent just about any site that is created by individuals (though these individuals might be affiliated with, sponsored by, or even working for, a company) using easy software that allows them to publish quickly without needing special technical skills. Elementary school students often blog!
In short, like the revolution of the printing press that made it possible for the mass production of books, magazines, and pamphlets, blog software has enabled anyone who desires to become a web publisher. And like the invention of the printing press, it has created a revolution in content. No longer is web publishing and quality content limited to “the big guys” and big media!
Using free services, anyone can be up and running with their own blog in just a few minutes… at no cost! Bloggers are becoming more and more influential in every area of life, from politics and entertainment to everyday daily life.
