Using Twitter (10 pts)
Your goal is to get signed up and start using the Twitter website… just to get a feel for how it works. To complete the assignment you need to perform the following steps:
- Sign up for your Twitter account (can use any name you want and that is available)
- Set up your account settings, including:
- name, username, email, timezone, bio, and location.
- make sure Protect My Tweets is OFF
- Under ‘Notices’ make sure New Follower Emails is ON
- Upload a profile picture of some kind
- Choose a theme
- Be sure you are signed in and go to your Twitter homepage and post a couple of entries (called Tweets)
Use the Assignment link above to submit a link to your Twitter page which will have the form: http://twitter.com/#!/username. For example, my Twitter page is at https://twitter.com/boris_dog — note: (this will not be http://twitter.com/home — that only works for you)
Reflection: Cognitive Surplus (25 pts)
Blog prompts:
- How does the Haifa day-care experiment relate to the actions of– and on– the web?
- Are you part of any “sharing cultures” that are facilitated by– or even exist completely on– the web?
- What are the problems Shirky proposes, whether you agree with him or not, with the “brain surgery” argument?
After you make your reflection post, comment on at least one other student’s post.
